Kenya Makes History at the World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2025
In May 2025, Kenya proudly competed at the inaugural Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, held from 6–11 May in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
This historic championship marked the first time junior curlers contested in the mixed doubles discipline at a world level, a milestone following the format’s growing success at the Youth Olympic Games.
Kenya on the Global Stage
Kenya joined 28 other nations—from curling powerhouses like Canada, Sweden, Korea, and Switzerland to fellow newcomers such as Brazil, Nigeria, and Japan. The open-entry competition showcased the truly global growth of curling, and Kenya was proud to be part of this pioneering event.
Tournament Format
Teams were divided into four groups, competing in a round-robin format from 6–10 May.
The top two from each group advanced to the playoffs, with semi-finals and medal games concluding on 11 May.
Significance for Kenya
While Kenya did not medal, the experience was invaluable for our junior athletes. Competing against the world’s best not only strengthened their skills but also highlighted the country’s growing presence in international curling.
This participation represents a stepping stone for future championships and Olympic qualification goals, as Kenya continues to establish itself in the global curling community.
