The Kenyan women’s curling team overcame all the odds to bag bronze at the 2022 Pan Continental Curling Championship on Saturday evening, November 5, 2022

Kenya finished behind winners Chinese Taipei and Mexico in an event which was staged in Calgary, Canada.

The East African representatives thrashed Nigeria 14-0 to return home with a well deserved bronze medal.

In their earlier encounter, the Kenyan women were hammered 8-2 by Chinese Taipei before being walloped 13-1 by Mexico.

Chinese Taipei narrowly won the title after beating Mexico 8 – 7 in a closely contested final.

Curling is a novel sport in Africa and it requires a lot of team work.

In this type of sport which is only played by Kenya and Nigeria in the vast African continent, players from opposing teams slide stones towards a target that is basically called a house. The stones that are used in this competition are made of granite.

The Kenyan team was composed of Rose Obilo, Tinisha Wanjiru, Mercy Ngovi and the skipper Purity Njuguna.

The team which was under the tutelage of Dean Roth were using their first international tournament to get exposure and ranking points ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games to be held in Milano-Cortina, Italy.

In the men’s category, Kenya returned home empty handed despite caging their African counterparts Nigeria.

A high flying Guyana side won the title ahead of Hong Kong and India.
