From May 20th to 21st, 2025, the Kenya Curling Federation (KCF) participated in the ADAK Compliance Workshop for National Sports Federations, a critical initiative focused on strengthening anti-doping efforts, governance, and integrity in Kenyan sport. Organized by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), the two-day workshop brought together federations from across the country to deepen their understanding of compliance requirements under the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC) and national regulations.

Day 1 Highlights

Session 1: Understanding Anti-Doping Compliance in Kenya
The workshop began with a thorough breakdown of ADAK’s legal mandate as established under the Anti-Doping Act. Key discussions highlighted Kenya’s commitment to global compliance standards under WADC and outlined the role of sports federations in ensuring adherence. The session also emphasized the risks of non-compliance—including potential sanctions that could impact national and international participation.

Session 2: Governance & Accountability in Anti-Doping
In this session, federations were reminded of their regulatory obligations and the need for solid governance frameworks to support anti-doping compliance. From establishing compliance officers to integrating anti-doping responsibilities in federation constitutions, the importance of structural readiness was emphasized.

Session 3: Doping Control Process & Testing Procedures
The practical elements of anti-doping took center stage here. The protocols for both in-competition and out-of-competition testing were reviewed, alongside athlete rights, the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP), and the importance of whereabouts submissions for tracking purposes.

Session 4: Prohibited Substances & Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs)
This session focused on the annually updated WADA Prohibited List, educating federations on commonly misunderstood substances and proper procedures for obtaining Therapeutic Use Exemptions.

Day 2 Highlights

Session 1: Anti-Doping Education & Prevention / Results Management
Day 2 emphasized the need for ongoing education, especially for grassroots athletes. The results management and disciplinary process was also discussed—highlighting the importance of fair procedures and athlete support during investigations.

Session 2: Intelligence, Investigations & Whistleblowing Mechanisms
Confidentiality, transparency, and ethics took the spotlight, with ADAK outlining its mechanisms for reporting doping suspicions and the protection offered to whistleblowers.

Session 3: Federation-Specific Compliance Action Plans
Federations, including Kenya Curling, were encouraged to develop tailored action plans to close compliance gaps. This included practical strategies such as scheduling regular athlete sensitization programs and integrating anti-doping education into training calendars.

Our Commitment to Clean Sport
Kenya Curling Federation reiterates its unwavering commitment to clean, fair, and accountable sports. We understand that true excellence in sport is not just about winning, but about integrity, transparency, and respect for the rules that protect athletes and the game

We thank ADAK for the opportunity and will continue working towards full compliance, education, and anti-doping excellence.
